Ahmedabad: Virat Kohli scored a Test match hundred for the first time since 2019 in the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. It was a momentous occasion since it was his 75th ton in international cricket and the first century for one of the greats of the game after a period of slump in the game's purest format.

The right-handed batter has himself called this format his personal favourite on multiple occasions in the past which is why the success should also taste sweeter for the ex-India captain. When the 33-year-old got to his hundred off the 241st delivery that he faced, unlike the aggressive celebrations that one has witnessed from him over the past so many years, he produced a muted celebration, kissing his wedding ring after acknowledging the applause from the crowd.

Notably, India are 2-1 up in the series but would want to push for a win in this Test match which seems to be heading towards a draw to seal a place for themselves at the World Test Championship (WTC) final. India can still go on to play the WTC final even if this fixture ends in a draw but they will have to depend on the result of the New Zealand-Sri Lanka Test series.

Should Sri Lanka beat the Kiwis 2-0 it will be the Men From the Island country instead that will play the WTC final. Any other result in that series would imply the Rohit Sharma-led side qualifying for the summit clash. Australia have already booked a place for themselves in the titilar contest set to be played in London in June.
