WATCH: Virat Kohli breaks Sachin's 17-year-old record, becomes fastest to 10,000 ODI runs

Virat has now become the fastest batsman in the world to score 10,000 runs in One-Day International cricket

Indian skipper Virat Kohli wrote the newest chapter in the history book of ODI cricket during the second ODI against West Indies in Vishakhapatnam on Wednesday. Smashing the 17-year-old record of former Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, Virat has now become the fastest batsman in the world to score 10,000 runs in One-Day International cricket.

Kohli reached this feat in the 205th innings of his career which came in his 213th ODI outing for India. Sachin, who did this marvel in his 259th innings (266th match) now stands second on the list followed by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly (263 innings), Ricky Ponting (266 innings) and Jacques Kallis (272 innings).

Here's how Kohli reached that unique milestone:

The Indian skipper has now become the 5th Indian cricketer and 13th in the world to go past the 10,000-run mark. Apart from the two above-mentioned Indian legends, there are Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni in the club who took 273 and 287 innings respectively to reach this feat.

Kohli got to 1000 runs in one-day cricket after 24 innings. And since then, there was no looking back for one of the greatest batsmen of the country as he just moved ahead with time and surpassed every possible batting record.

Innings taken to each milestone by Kohli:

Milestone Number of innings
1000 Runs 24
2000 Runs 53
3000 Runs 75
4000 Runs 93
5000 Runs 114
6000 Runs 136
7000 Runs 161
8000 Runs 175
9000 Runs 194
10,000 Runs 205

Kohli continued his sublime in the 2nd ODI as well. After he played a terrific 140-run knock in Guwahati, he talked louder with the bat in Vizag. He was batting on 81when he got those 10k runs against his name.
