Virat Kohli to undergo scan on shoulder injury

New Delhi: India skipper Virat Kohli headed to hospital for scans on damaged right shoulder after the end of day 1 and extent of the injury will be known on Friday morning.

Virat remained on the sideline to witness Australia skipper Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell guide Australia to 299/4. Smith completed his 19th Test century while Maxwell played a matured innings of unbeaten 82 runs.

In the 40th over off the Australian innings, Handsocmb drove one passed mid on. Kohli went after the ball and dived at full length to stop it going over the boundary. He was successful to restrict the batsman to 3 runs but he ended up jamming his shoulder badly on the ground.

Kohli was in discomfort immediately after the incident and walked off the field with the physio.

Later on he was seen sitting with an ice-pack wrapped around his right shoulder in the dressing room.

Ajinkya Rahane was playing the role of stand-in captain.
