X User Debunks Viral 'Chokli' Video With 'Original’ Footage, Claims Virat Kohli’s Reaction Was Misinterpreted

An X user has shared an alternate version of the viral video featuring Virat Kohli and the 'Chokli' chants, claiming it as the 'original' and showing no audio of such chants.

A video circulating on social media shows Indian cricket star Virat Kohli seemingly upset when a fan chanted "Chokli-Chokli" at him while he was shadow batting ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series. The term "Chokli" combines "Kohli" and "choke," used by critics to suggest he fails in crucial matches. The clip has gone viral, but an X (formerly known as Twitter) user has shared an alternate version of the video, claiming it’s the original and showing no audio of such chants.

In the viral video from Wednesday, July 31, Virat Kohli is shadow batting in a room with teammates when a fan begins taunting him with the term 'Chokli'. Kohli, visibly annoyed, responds directly to the fan saying what, in the video, sounds like, “Not here.”

X User Presents Different Angle Of Kohli’s Viral Video Incident

However, an X user that goes by the handle name of @Melbourne__82 (Gaurav) has shared a version of the video, claiming it as the original clip. He stated that this version does not include the term 'Chokli'. He also claims that the fan was most likely there to get an autograph from the Indian cricketing legend, to which Kohli responded saying ‘Not here.’

"Here's the original clip... Most likely a fan was asking for Kohli's autograph and Kohli replied not here," wrote the X user in the caption.

Here's the second video that refutes the claims of Kohli facing "chokli-chokli" chants:

Despite several media reports suggesting that Virat Kohli reacted to the term 'Chokli' in a viral video, the seven-second clip presents a different narrative and does not substantiate this claim.

Kohli To Be In Action For First Time Since India's T20 World Cup 2024 Win

Kohli is in Sri Lanka for the three-match ODI series starting on Friday, August 2. He did not participate in the recently concluded T20I series, having retired from the format following the 2024 T20 World Cup. The last time he was seen in action was back in the India vs South Africa final of the T20 World Cup 2024 where India defeated the Proteas by seven runs to win their first ICC trophy in 11 years and first World Cup in over 13 years.
