Virat & Co. unhappy with kit sponsor Nike

New Delhi: India cricket team led by Virat Kohli is unhappy with Nike, team’s official kit sponsor for providing sub-standard clothing in the past few months.

The cricketers complained about the quality of the kit to the BCCI, according to the Indian express. The BCCI’s top two officials- Rahul Johri and Ratnakar Shetty raised the issue with Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) and the committee’s chairman Vinod Rai has raised his concerns.

“It [Nike’s clothing] has come up for discussion in last COA meeting and chairman CoA [Vinod Rai] took it very strongly,” Johri told the India Express. “The team cannot have sub-standard kits and we will be engaging with Nike and he has asked to put our case strongly. We have to engage with them, we will have a meeting with them next week and try to resolve it at earliest.”

There has been no official statement from Nike India but both the parties will try to find a middle ground as the contract cannot be terminated for the next three years

Nike has been India’s kit sponsor since 2006 and it paid approximately 370 crores in 2016 and the contract lasts till 2020. Nike pays around 87,34,000 every match that India plays in.
