Uganda Team Asked To Change T20 World Cup 2024 Jersey By ICC. Here's Why

Uganda Team Asked To Change T20 World Cup 2024 Jersey: The Original jersey was chosen from the three shortlisted from a public competition.

In a rare instance, the Uganda men's cricket team set to feature in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, was forced to change its jersey. The team was asked by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to modifiy its jersey after it failed to meet a mandatory requirement. The same was confirmed in a report carried by Cricket Australia (CA) before several pictures that surfaced online, seemed to have hinted at the same.

Notably, the original design of the Uganda jersey which was shared earlier was chosen from the three that had been shortisted after a competition open to the public. The competition had concluded in March with Elijah Mangeni's design emerging as the winner. The design took inspiration from the country's national bird, the grey crowned crane. However, there was a feathered pattern on the sleeves of the jersey that was asked by ICC to be removed.

This is because the pattern on the sleeves of the jersey did not allow proper visibility to the sponsored logos. Uganda obliged and their new jersey, in a brighter shade of yellow, does not have that feathered pattern, as pictures that have surfaced online corroborate. The team's new jersey was also revealed for public before the team departed for the Caribbean Islands ahead of their T20 World Cup 2024 opener.

We Lost About 20 Per Cent Of The Original Design: Uganda Cricket Associations's Pubic Relations Officer

It was here on this occasion that Musali Denis, the Uganda Cricket Association's public relations officer, issued a clarification.

"The ICC asked for a change in the design but we didn’t have enough time to make the required changes and had to compromise on the winning design. We lost just about 20 per cent of the original design, but the rest of the design is the same," Musali was quoted as saying by the cricket.com.au report.

West Bengal News: Suvendu Adhikari alleges TMC attack in Purulia, stages midnight protest at police stationWest Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday alleged that his convoy was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Purulia district, triggering panic and chaos at the spot. Adhikari was returning after attending a programme in Purulia when the incident reportedly took place. Following the alleged attack, he raised slogans and proceeded to the local police station, where he staged a peaceful sit-in protest for nearly five hours, extending until after midnight. Adhikari accused the ruling TMC of orchestrating a planned attack on his vehicle and alleged the involvement of the state police. He claimed that the incident reflected a nexus between “criminal elements and the administration,” and held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also heads the state home department, responsible for the situation. In strong remarks, he alleged that files were stolen and intimidation was carried out by individuals linked to the ruling party. The BJP leader also shared posts on social media platform X late at night, reiterating his allegations and stating that the fight against what he termed “political violence” in West Bengal would continue. After the incident, Adhikari reached the police station, where he remained seated in protest for several hours, demanding action against those responsible. The TMC, however, has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
