T20 World Cup 2024: What Is The Rain Rule In Case India vs South Africa Final In Barbados Is Washed Out
T20 World Cup 2024: What happens if rain washes out the IND vs SA final in Barbados. Find out here.
T20 World Cup 2024: Rain is likely to play spoilsport again as India take on South Africa in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados. While India's semifinal against England in Guyana was also a rain-affected fixture, thankfully there was enough time in the bank to get a full game. But what if it rains heavily and play is not possible at all?
Notably, in case rain washes out the match day, which is Saturday (June 29), there is a provision for a reserve day for the summit clash which happens to be Sunday (June 30). However, the match will resume on the reserve day only from the point of interruption. It is also pertinent to note that as per ICC's rules, every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled date, including reduction of overs.
Only if the match is not possible even after reduction of overs, will the match be taken into the reserve day. Like in the case of semifinals, a minimum of 10 overs per side are required to have a result.

What If No Play Is Possible On Reserve Day?
However, given the weather conditions in Barbados, a scenario of rain washing out even the reserve day is not completelty out of equation. In such a scenario, both India and South Africa will be awarded joint-winners. Both the teams have been undefeated in the tournament so far and it is only fair that in the summit clash, if such a scenario occurs, both get to be crowned as the champions.
India are the inaugural champions of the T20 World Cup while South Africa will play their first-ever final. While the Men in Blue beat England to reach the summit clash, the Proteas dominated Afghanistan to reach the titular contest.
