USA Might Not Host T20 World Cup 2024, Event Likely To Be Shifted To England: Report
Only 12 months are left for the 2024 T20 World Cup and reportedly USA isn't prepared to get the infrastructure ready in time for the event.
For now, the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup is slated to be played in the United States and West Indies. For the first time a major ICC event is set to take place on American soil. However, as per a report by News18 Cricketnext, the infrastructure in USA isn't ready for hosting the mega tournament, due to which the ICC is reconsidering other options. Only 12 months are left for the tournament and reportedly USA isn't prepared to get the infrastructure ready in time for the event. According to the report, ICC may request England to host the T20 World. According to the November 2021 ICC release, England, Ireland and Scotland have been given the rights to host the 2030 T20 World Cup.
According to the report, the 2024 and 2030 T20 World Cup hosts might be changed. The hosting rights of 2024 T20 World Cup might be given to England, Ireland and Scotland, while the hosting rights of T20 World Cup 2030 might be given to USA and West Indies. If this happens and ICC swaps hosting rights of the two World Cups, USA will have enough time to prepare for hosting the mega event.
"There is a situation at hand. The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging and it is likely that the ICC could well swap the hosts for 2024 and 2030 editions of the event. It will also allow USA Cricket to get the infrastructure in order before 2030 and allow them to set the house in order too. Right now, it will be a rushed process to get the venues ready. England were already allotted the 2030 World Cup and they, unlike other nations, can host an event in June-July," a source close to the developments informed News18 CricketNext.
"Where will you host it? I can tell you that the ICC site visits which happened recently, many parks, free spaces with some green cover to be precise, were being explored to have a modular set-up in place for the World Cup. Modular stands and everything else also modular in nature. But it's going to be one hell of a task to even pull that off and even if they do, not entirely sure whether it would meet ICC standards. There are lot of ICC checklists for a venue and I highly doubt the modular or the makeshift venues will make the cut," a former USA cricket administrator infomred the publication.
