Suryakumar Yadav's T20 World Cup final last-over catch is in the news once again following a post from a South African cricketer.

India managed to end their world title drought this year after winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. In a thrilling final against South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav grabbed perhaps the most crucial catch of his career with South Africa needing 15 to win off 6 balls and the ball seemingly going for a six. However, Suryakumar, stationed at long off had other ideas.

Suryakumar sent the ball up in the air as he realised his momentum was going to take him outside the boundary ropes before coming back to take the catch neatly and send David Miller back to the pavilion. India eventually went on to win the match by 7 runs to lift the T20 World Cup.

While there was an initial chatter around the legality of Miller's catch, the matter seemed to have settled down. However, South African spinner Tabraiz Shami's post on social media account has reignited the debate. Sharing a video, Shamsi wrote: "If they used this method to check the catch in the world cup final maybe it would have been given not out 😅". The post has attracted a lot of eyeballs so much so that the South African star had to clarify that it was only a joke.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the T20I captain after the T20 World Cup where Rohit Sharma was at the helm of affairs for India. While there were expectations that it would be Hardik Pandya who would succeed Rohit, the selectors and the new coach Gautam Gambhir wanted someone who would play all the matches and given Hardik's concern with fitness, Suryakumar was given the nod.
