Suryakumar Yadav Named Captain In ICC Men's T20I Team Of The Year 2023

ICC Men's T20I Team Of The Year 2023: Suryakumar Yadav was one of the four Indians to feature in the 11.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the Men's T20I Team Of The Year 2023 on Monday (January 22) with India's Suryakumar Yadav named as the captain. The number 1 ranked T20I batter has been chosen as the skipper of the side which includes three other Indians in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah were not part of the T20I team of the year after having not played a single T20I in 2023.

While Jaiswal was chosen as the opener along with England's Phil Salt, West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran came into bat at number 3. Suryakumar was slotted to bat at number 4 in this side with New Zealand's Mark Chapman getting the responsibility to bat at number 6. Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza was drafted in the late middle-order followed by all-rounders Uganda's Alpesh Ramjani and Ireland's Mark Adair. Bishnoi, Zimbabwe's Richard Ngarava and Arshdeep were the frontline bowling options which completed the Playing 11.

Suryakumar Yadav Features In ICC Men's T20I Team Of The Year For Second Straight Year

Suryakumar made it to the ICC Mens' T20I Team Of the year for the second year in a row. He had a superb 2023 even though he had a slow start to it, making just 7 against Sri Lanka. In his next two matches, he responded with scores of 51 off 36 and 112* off 51. He made several healthy contributions in between before an 83 off 44 which stood out against West Indies in Providence.

The tour of the Caribbean and USA concluded with a fluent 61 off 45 from his blade. With Rohit Sharma opting for a break and Hardik Pandya injured, the 33-year-old was also made the captain and scored half-centuries against Australia and South Africa while being at the helm of affairs. In India's final T20I of 2023, Suryakumar scored yet another hundred which came off 56 deliveries in Johannesburg.
