SL spinner Jeffery Vandersay sent home for breach of contractual obligations

This is not the first time that the Lankan leg-spinner was found indulged in disciplinary issues

Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffery Vandersay have been sent back home after he was found guilty of breaching contract obligations. The team management took this tough decision ahead of the third and the final Test against West Indies in Barbados.

As learned from media reports, Vandersay, along with a few Lankan teammates, visited a night club in St Lucia after the drawing the second Test match. Next morning, the team management filed a missing complaint to the local police after the 28-year-old was not found in his hotel room.

A few hours later, Vandersay turned up citing that he lost his way back to hotel. The other players had got back to the hotel and left him alone in the night club.

This is not the first time that the Lankan leg-spinner was found indulged in disciplinary issues. In 2017, he skipped several domestic games ahead of the tour of India.

The Sri Lankan cricket is already having a difficult time during their Caribbean tour.

Firstly, they lost the first Test by a huge margin of 226 runs in Trinidad. While in the second, skipper Dinesh Chandimal faced ball tampering charges.

As a result, he had to miss the third Test in Barbados as he was slapped with suspension of one match along with a fine of 100 per cent of his match fee.

Apart from Chandimal, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and manager Asanka Gurusinha are also awaiting sanctions for their involvement holding up play for two hours on the third day in St Lucia.

The ICC has appointed Judicial Commissioner Michael Beloff (QC) to hear the case on July 10.
