ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023: Sachin Tendulkar, who was part of India's World Cup-winning team in 2011, has been named as the global ambassador for the tournament.
In a thrilling announcement just days before the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 kickstarts, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as the Global Ambassador for the tournament. The iconic "Master Blaster," who boasts an illustrious career, including six appearances in the 50-over World Cups, will have the honour of unveiling the Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy at the opening match in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
Expressing his excitement about this prestigious role, Sachin Tendulkar stated, "From being a ball boy in 1987 to representing the country in six editions, World Cups have always held a special place in my heart. Winning the World Cup in 2011 is the proudest moment of my cricketing journey."
Tendulkar added, "With so many special teams and players set to compete hard in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 here in India, I am excitedly looking forward to this fantastic tournament. Marquee events like the World Cup seed dreams in young minds, I hope this edition too inspires young girls and boys to pick up sports and represent their countries at the highest level."
This edition of the Cricket World Cup is poised to be the grandest yet, featuring a stellar lineup of ICC ambassadors, including cricket legends Vivian Richards from the West Indies, AB de Villiers from South Africa, England's World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan, Australia’s Aaron Finch, Sri Lanka's spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, New Zealand’s Ross Taylor, India’s Suresh Raina, former captain Mithali Raj, and Pakistan's all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.
These cricket icons will not only enhance the spectator experience but also bring fans closer to the action. They will engage in meet and greets with fans, share expert analysis, and make appearances at select matches across the country, elevating the excitement surrounding the World Cup.
Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager, Marketing & Communications, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "It’s a real honour to have Sachin as our Global Ambassador as we celebrate the one-day game and get set for what we know is going to be the biggest Men’s Cricket World Cup ever. He is joined by nine fellow legends of the game who will bring the fans closer to the action, and we can’t wait for it all to begin."
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will commence on October 5, featuring the defending champions England taking on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The tournament will see 48 matches played across 10 venues, culminating in the final on November 19, hosted in the world's largest cricket stadium.
