Rohit Sharma & 2 Other Indian Players Who Might Be Playing Their Final Border-Gavaskar Trophy In Australia

Rohit Sharma, India's legendary captain, could be considering retirement from Test cricket, as his recent form in the red-ball format has become a concern.

A few veteran players in the Indian cricket team might be playing their last Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Since India tours Australia for the BGT every two years, this could be the final time for some of veteran Indian players to feature in this prestigious series.

Three Indian players who might be playing BGT series in Australia for last time

Ravichandran Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin, India's veteran off-spinner, is undoubtedly nearing the end of his illustrious career. He was sidelined for the series opener in Perth, with Washington Sundar replacing him in the playing XI. Ashwin's role is now largely limited to spin-friendly conditions, particularly in home Test matches. With Sundar’s rise and the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia being two years away, it seems unlikely that Ashwin will be part of the team for the next BGT.

Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli's journey in Test cricket has been marked by unforgettable performances in Australia, starting with his first Test century in Perth in 2012. His remarkable achievements on Australian soil during Border-Gavaskar Trophy earned him the title "King of Australia." While age and fitness don't seem to be concerns, Kohli has not been at his peak in recent years. With the rise of new, talented players, Kohli now faces more challenges to maintain his place in the team.

Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma, India's legendary captain, could be considering retirement from Test cricket, as his recent form in the red-ball format has become a concern. With the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia scheduled in two years, the emergence of new players may lead to changes in the team, potentially replacing Rohit. In BGT 2024-25 series opener in Perth, India registered a big victory under Jasprit Bumrah's leadership, highlighting that the team could perform well even in Rohit's absence.
