ODI World Cup 2023 Schedule To Be Tweaked, Confirms BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

Days after reports claimed that the India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 fixture is likely to be rescheduled to avoid clash with the start of Navaratri, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that there will be changes made to the schedule of the marquee event. However, his remark suggests that the India vs Pakistan match will not be the only one which will be played at a different date as three member nations have written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a change in their World Cup schedule.

Meanwhile, Shah also confirmed that only the date and timing of a few fixtures are expected to change with the venue remaining the same. The new schedule will be made with aim to reduce the gap to 4-5 days between matches for certain teams. However, the 34-year-old did not name the member nations who have asked for a change in their schedule.



"Three members have written to the ICC for a schedule change. Only the date and timings will be changed, venues will not be changed. If there is a six day gap between games, we are trying to reduce it to 4-5 days. Picture will be clear in three-four days. Changes will happen in consultation with the ICC," Shah told reporters after meeting associations hosting World Cup games on Thursday.

When asked about the change in the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan World Cup fixture, currently slated to be played on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, he said: "As I said earlier, only a few member boards have written to the ICC and a decision will be taken soon." He maintained that "security is not an issue" for the high-voltage game in Ahmedabad. While a few reports had claimed that IND vs PAK could be played a day prior to the original schedule, that seems unlikely with two World Cup matches already scheduled on October 14.
