New BCCI Secretary: Date Set For Announcement Of Jay Shah's Replacement As BCCI Secretary

New BCCI Secretary: Since Jay Shah's appointment as the ICC president, secretary position in Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been vacant.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is undergoing major changes, with Jay Shah stepping down from his role as secretary after being appointed the president of International Cricket Council (ICC). This has led to months of speculation about who will replace Shah as the BCCI secretary, but now the apex board is preparing to make the announcement soon.

According to PTI, BCCI is set to unveil the new secretary on January 12, 2025. The board will hold a special general meeting on that day to decide on appointments of both the secretary and treasurer. State cricket association representatives will participate in the meeting, and it's expected that the new appointments will be decided unanimously, avoiding a formal election.

Since Shah became ICC president, secretary position in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been vacant.

Also, Ashish Shelar, the BCCI treasurer, recently assumed a ministerial position in Maharashtra government, leaving his post unfilled. Notably, BCCI's constitution mandates that no post can remain vacant for more than 45 days, prompting the board to fill in these positions as soon as possible.

"Yes, after the Apex Council Meeting on Thursday, state units were sent a notification about the date of the SGM, which is January 12 at the BCCI headquarters," a state association president told PTI.

As per the Lodha Committee's recommendations, which were accepted by the Supreme Court, individuals can hold only one post at a time. This has necessitated the appointment of replacements for both Shah and Shelar. Currently, Devjit Saikia from Assam is serving as the interim secretary.

"As the posts of Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer have been vacated, the same are required to be filled up for the remaining period at a Special General Meeting by way of elections," reads an official Board document which is in PTI's possession.

"In this regard, the Apex Council is requested to approve the appointment of Mr. Achal Kumar Jyoti, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, as the Electoral Officer to conduct BCCI elections at a Special General Meeting," it added.
