Hardik Pandya Opted Out Of Sri Lanka ODIs Due To Personal Reasons

Meanwhile, India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been on a rather long break. The current captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) played a pivotal role in India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph but has only played the three T20Is in Sri Lanka, opting out of the ODI series due to personal reasons, not long after he announced his separation with his wife.

With India's next white-ball assignment not until October 6, it is likely that Hardik will have another month's gap before he takes the field again. Even though Hardik was Rohit Sharma's deputy during India's victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, new head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar decided that it would be Suryakumar Yadav who will be replacing Rohit as the captain once the senior India cricketer announced his decision to retire.

With Suryakumar being the nationak T20I captain, he might now harbour captaincy ambitions in the IPL but with Hardik being the skipper of the MI, the same franchise for which Suryakumar plays, it would be interesting to see what lies ahead for the cricketer.
