Musheer, Sarfaraz Khan’s Brother, Injured In Road Accident; Set to Miss Irani Cup

Musheer Khan Accident: Musheer Khan, the younger brother of India batter Sarfaraz Khan, sustained injuries after a road accident and is slated to miss the upcoming Irani Cup. The young Mumbai batter was travelling from Azamgarh to Lucknow with his father Naushad Khan when the car accident occurred. This injury comes as a major setback for Musheer, who has been making large strides in his cricketing career in domestic cricket over the past year.

The 19-year-old batter is anticipated to be sidelined for an extended duration, depending on the severity of his injury and his recovery progress. While some media reports claim that Musheer has sustained a fracture, others are claiming that he has sustained a serious neck injury. While the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, India Today reported that the car Musheer was travelling in flipped four to five times on the road.

Musheer Likely To Miss Initial Ranji Trophy Matches

The right-hand batter was reportedly travelling for the Irani Cup match against Rest of India at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, slated to take place from October 1 to 5. The severity and nature of the injuries are yet not known but it is likely that Musheer will also be unavailable for the opening matches of the Ranji Trophy, starting October 11.

Coming to Musheer’s domestic cricket stats, he has scored 716 runs in nine matches at the average of 51.14, including three centuries and one fifty. Bowling left-arm spin, he has also taken eight wickets at an average of 26.87. Musheer’s recent impressive performances include a match-winning knock of 181 for India B against India A in the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy tournament.

Earlier, Musheer's name came to prominence after a standout ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2024 campaign where he helped India reach finals with 360 runs in seven matches. He finished the World Cup as tournament's second-highest run-getter.
