Mohammed Siraj Breaks Kapil Dev's 46-Year-Old Record At Edgbaston

Mohammed Siraj delivered a fiery spell in the first innings, claiming 6 wickets for just 70 runs in 19.3 overs.

Cricket fans were left stunned when Jasprit Bumrah was missing from India’s playing XI for the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Skipper Shubman Gill clarified it was a workload management decision, and naturally, the big question was: Who would step up in Bumrah’s absence?

The answer came quickly — Mohammed Siraj rose to the occasion, delivering a sensational performance that not only tilted the match in India’s favour but also etched his name into the history books.

Siraj Tops Indian Bowling Charts at Edgbaston

Mohammed Siraj delivered a fiery spell in the first innings, claiming 6 wickets for just 70 runs in 19.3 overs. This performance didn’t just put India in command — it also broke a long-standing record set by Kapil Dev 46 years ago.

Back in July 1979, Kapil had registered 5/146 in 48 overs against England on this same ground. With his six-wicket haul, Siraj has now produced India’s second-best bowling figures at Edgbaston.

He also surpassed Ishant Sharma’s 5/51 recorded in 2018 during the memorable Test series.

Best Bowling Figures by Indian Bowlers at Edgbaston:

Chetan Sharma – 6/58 (1986)

Mohammed Siraj – 6/70 (2025)

Ishant Sharma – 5/51 (2018)

Kapil Dev – 5/146 (1979)

Siraj’s spell is not only the best by any Indian at Edgbaston since 1993, but also marks the first time in over three decades that a visiting fast bowler has claimed six wickets in an innings at this iconic venue.
