World Cup 2019: Kohli equals Azharuddin's record with 3rd successive World Cup fifty as India captain

Kohli scored his third fifty in succession to equal Mohammad Azharuddin's India record of registering three straight fifty-plus scores as India captain.

Virat Kohli registered his 52nd ODI fifty as India were restricted to a below-par total of 224 against Afghanistan at the 2019 Cricket World Cup in Southampton on Saturday. Kohli's 67-run knock against the Asian opponents was his 4th ODI half-century of the year and 3rd straight one in the World Cups. Kohli scored his third fifty in succession to equal Mohammad Azharuddin's India record of registering three straight fifty-plus scores as India captain. Azharrudin had achieved the feat when he was captaining India in the 1992 World Cup. Azhar struck three consecutive 50s against South Africa, West Indies and New Zealand. Virat Kohli who was dismissed for 18 in India's opening game against South Africa, struck good form by scoring 82 (against Australia) and 77 (against Pakistan) in the next two matches. Against Afghanistan, Kohli was on course for his 42nd hundred before he top-edged a Mohammad Nabi delivery to third man Rahmat Shah and was dismissed for a 63-ball 67 with five boundaries in the 31st over. Virat Kohli has struck a purple form with the bat since 2016 and he made it count again on a day India needed him. This year, all his 3 hundreds came against Australia before the World Cup got underway.
