IPL 2020, DC vs CSK: Shaw's Fiery Half Ton Powers Delhi Capitals To 44-Run Win Over Chennai Super Kings
Delhi Capital's 44-run win over CSK came at the back of an all-round team effort with young opener hogging the limelight with a fiery 64-run knock.
Delhi Capitals registered their second win on the trot in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs in Game 7 of the season played at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.
Delhi Capital's win came at the back of an all-round team effort with young opener hogging the limelight with a fiery 64-run knock.
Put into bat first by CSK skipper MS Dhoni, Delhi Capitals set a challenging 176-run target for CSK riding high on a quick-fire half ton by Prithvi Shaw (64) and handy contributions by Shikhar Dhawan (35), skipper Shreyas Iyer (26) and Rishabh Pant (37).
Openers Shaw and Dhawan got Delhi Capitals off to a solid start as they put on for the opening wicket. While the CSK seamers hit good areas with consistency and kept a tight lid on the scoring rate, Shaw and Dhawan stepped up the scoring rate by taking on the spinner and hit them for boundaries with relative ease.
Once Dhawan fell for 35 and Shaw was stumped by Dhoni off Chawla's bowling for 64, skipper Shreyas Iyer and wicket keeper batsman stitched a 58-run partnership to steer Delhi Capitals to a competitive 175-3 run total.
Chasing 176 to win, CSK did not get off to a good start as openers Shane Watson and Murali Vijay got out cheaply yet again. While Watson was dismissed by spinner Axar Patel for 14, Murali Vijay once again failed with the bat and was sent back to the pavilion by seamer Nortje for 10.

In form batsman Faf Du Plessis kept ticking the scoreboard by Delhi's spinners bowled with a lot of discipline and dint allow the CSK batsmen to free their arms. Du Plessis forged a partnership with Kedhar Jadhav to bring CSK back into the game but the run rate kept on zooming and the pressure eventually got to the CSK batsman.
When Jadhav was trapped leg before wicket by Nortje, CSK stared at yet another defeat. Skipper MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja did try to provide a late flourish but the target was beyond CSK's reach in the end with Kagiso Rabada bowling well at the death to dismiss both 'Mahi' and 'Jaddu'.
Brief scores: Delhi Capitals 175/3 off 20 overs (Prithvi Shaw 64, Rishabh Pant 37 not out; Piyush Chawla 2/33) vs Chennai Super Kings 131/7 off 20 overs (Faf du Plessis 43, Kedar Jadhav 26; Kagiso Rabada 3/26), DC win by 44 runs.
