India U-19's Pawan Shah scores 282, breaks 25-year-old record

India U-19 posted 613 for 8 in their first innings.

India Under-19 batsman Pawan Shah altered the record books of cricket in the second Youth Test against Sri Lanka U-19 on Wednesday.

Batting at No 3, Shah posted the highest total by an Indian U-19 batsman, smashing 282 runs off 332 balls. During his stint at the crease, he hit a total of 33 fours and a six. At the same time, he also became the second highest scorer at the youth level after Australia’s Clinton Peake. He scored an unbeaten 304 against Indian back in 1995.

 

Meanwhile, Shah also exhibited a batting masterpiece by slamming 6 boundaries in an over. He did this marvel in the 108th over and EKV Perera was the bowler.

Shah also entered the elite club of Indian batsmen who scored centuries in Youth Test. Apart from Srivastava, the list also includes Gautam Gambhir, Cheteshwar Pujara, Abhinav Mukund and Vinayak Mane.

The Indian colts had a terrific start as the opening duo of Atharwa Taide and Anuj Rawat stitched 40 runs for the first wicket before Rawat was dismissed by SMKS Senarathne.

Nehal Wadhera scored a helpful 64 runs for India while Arjun Tendulkar was dismissed for 14 runs.

On Tuesday, Shah and his opening partner Atharwa Taide have dominated the Sri Lanka bowling as India U-19 team amassed 428 for four on the opening day. On day 2, India U-19 posted 613 for 8 in their first innings.
