IND vs NZ 1st T20 Highlights: Washington Sundar's Fifty In Vain As Kiwis Beat India By 21 Runs

Background

Hardik Pandya-led India will play New Zealand in the first of the three-match T20I series at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Friday. While the Men in Blue were convincing in the three-match ODI series which they won 3-0, the T20I side will feature some more youngsters with the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul once again missing from the shortest format of the game.

Meanwhile, New Zealand would look to taste their first win on the tour, having been beaten in all their ODIs. Even though the came close to India's total of 349 in the first ODI in Hyderabad, in the next two matches, it was a dominant Team India performance. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill will open for the home team in this series while Suryakumar Yadav will be back in the format where he has impressed the most, having just won the ICC T20I Cricketer Year Of the Year 2022.

Spotlight will be on Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi in the Indian fast bowling department in this series.

The Blackcaps, meanwhile, continue to be without Kane Williamson and Tim Southee. It is Mitchell Santner who will lead the visitors and even though with him at the helm the Kiwis hace eight wins, one defeat and a no-result in 10 matches, it should be noted that seven of those eight victories came against Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands. This implies that leading for an entire series in India would be among his first real test as a skipper.

Lockie Ferguson is their most experienced pacer and others like Blair Tickner and Jacob Duffy have little experience. However, Ish Sodhi is fit which would be a big boost to the team especially considering his impressive record against India.
