IND vs ENG: Joe Root Breaks Rahul Dravid's All-Time Catching Record

Joe Root overtook India’s legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid, who held the record for the most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket.

England cricket team’s veteran batter Joe Root has etched his name in the record books during the ongoing Lord’s Test against India.

Not only did he display his class with the bat, but he also made history in the field. By taking a sharp catch in the slips to dismiss Karun Nair, Root became the cricketer with the most catches in the history of Test cricket (excluding wicketkeepers).

Joe Root’s Stunning Catch Turns Heads

After making his mark with a century, Joe Root stunned fans again with a brilliant slip catch.

Fielding at first slip, Root grabbed a low, sharp edge off Ben Stokes' bowling to send Karun Nair packing. The catch showcased Root’s razor-sharp reflexes and supreme focus. His effort was widely appreciated, and with it, he added another feather to his already decorated cap.

Root Surpasses Rahul Dravid’s Historic Feat

With this effort, Joe Root overtook India’s legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid, who held the record for the most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket.

Root now has 211 catches in 296 innings across 156 Test matches*, moving ahead of Dravid and setting a new benchmark. The milestone is a reflection of Root’s incredible consistency and brilliance in the slip cordon.

Dravid took a total of 210 catches in his Test career — the most by any non-wicketkeeper until Joe Root surpassed him.

A Century and a Record: Joe Root’s All-Round Show

Root wasn’t done with just fielding brilliance. Earlier in the match, after England opted to bat first, Joe Root played a classy knock, scoring a century under pressure. He went on to score 104 runs off 199 balls before being dismissed.

His performance once again highlighted his importance to the English side and cemented his status as one of the finest players of his generation.
