IND vs AUS: Aaron Finch Becomes Second Fastest Australian Batsman To Register 5000 ODI Runs

Finch who took just 126 ODI innings to get to the landmark, became the second fastest Australian batsman to scale the 5,000-run milestone in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Australian skipper Aaron Finch attained a personal milestone in his ODI career as he scaled the 5000-run mark during his century knock (114) against India in the first ODI of the 3-match series being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Finch who took just 126 ODI innings to get to the landmark, became the second fastest Australian batsman to score 5,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Finch registered a century plus opening stand with his seasoned opening partner David Warner to lay down a strong foundation and propel his team to a mammoth 374-run total. Once Warner departed, Finch stitched a quick-fire partnership with Steve Smith to keep the scoreboard ticking. He eventually got out to seamer Jasprit Bumrah after registering a breezy ton. It was Finch's 17th ton in the 50-over format in international cricket. Windies batting great Sir Vivian Richards and India's prolific run scorer Virat Kohli are the joint second fastest batsmen to scale the 5000-run milestone in ODIs. India are competing in their first ever ODI series since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March earlier this year. Virat Kohli-led team India is playing its first series in the newly devised ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, which will determine qualification for the ICC 2023 World Cup. Hosts Australia are already on the points table with 20 points courtesy their 2-1 win over arch rivals England in their  last ODI series played in September. India are taking on Australia in an all-format bilateral engagement which comprises of three ODIs, three T20Is and four Test matches in an exciting summer of cricket 'Down Under'.
