'He Has The Ability Of Virender Sehwag': Wasim Jaffer Lauds Prithvi Shaw
Wasim Jaffer also spoke about India's Test opener Mayank Agarwal, saying he is a good player but will have to prove his mettle on the road.
Indian cricket team former batsman and Uttarakhand Ranji team head coach Wasim Jaffer compared young talented opener, Prithvi Shaw, to hard-hitting legendary batsman Virender Sehwag as he lavished praise on him and said Shaw has the ability of Sehwag. "I think he is a special player, without a doubt. The shots he hits, if he gets going, he has the ability of Virender Sehwag I feel," Jaffer told Aakash Chopra on his show AakashVani, on YouTube.
"He can completely demolish an attack. But somewhere I feel he needs to understand his game better, where he needs to take a backseat. I feel he got found out a little bit in New Zealand, got dismissed two times off a short delivery. He fell into their trap."
Jaffer also spoke about India's Test opener Mayank Agarwal, saying he is a good player but will have to prove his mettle on the road.
"He has done well in the limited opportunities that he has got. Things are going to be challenging for him abroad. The Australian tour is going to be vital."
Jaffer drew a close to a highly successful cricket career in March earlier this year after achieving lofty heights both as a premier batsman and skipper in India's first-class cricket fold.
He notched up a staggering 19,410 runs at a stupendous average of 50.67. He racked up 57 hundred and 91 fifties with 314 being his highest score.
Jaffer led Mumbai to its 38th and 39th Ranji title, as well as overseeing West Zone's 16th Duleep Trophy success in early 2010.
