Eng vs WI, 1st Test, Day 4: Gabriel Helps Windies Make Comeback; England Lead By 170 Runs At Stumps

Speedster Shanon Gabriel (3/62) was the pick of the bowlers as Windies restricted England to 284/8 at stumps on Day 4 of the first Test.

In the final session, Zak Crawley's fifty strengthened England's position even more. The fluent England batsman reached the landmark with an excellent reverse-sweep off that went for a four.

The pressure further kept on increasing on the visitors after Crawley and Stokes brought 200 on the scoreboard and a quick fifty run partnership. The only relief for Windies came in the form of the second new ball. The Windies bowlers now had to make sure no easy runs were gifted and even take wickets to get back into the match.

In the 90th over, captain Jason Holder got the huge breakthrough by departing Ben Stokes (46 runs off 79 balls). The England skipper goy caught out for 46 off balls and it was for the second time in this match Jason got the wicket of his opposite number.

In the very next over, paceman Joseph sent Crawley (76 runs off 127 balls) packing for off balls to drag Windies back into the game with a couple of quick wickets.

After seeing overcast conditions in the first innings, England finally had the chance to set a good second innings total under the clear blue skies at Southampton.

A hard-fought half-century from opener Dom Sibley and a crucial 42-run contribution from Rory Burns helped England extend their lead over West Indies to 54 runs at Tea.

England openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley issued a fine fightback against West Indies in the morning session as the duo added 72 runs for the opening wicket to help their team reach 79/1 at Lunch.
