Capped cricketers could feature in only 3 T20 leagues per year?

PCB has issued an order, according to which their player can only participate in two T20 leagues, with or without the PSL.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is most likely to issue a new rule according to which, a capped cricketer will only be allowed to participate in just three T20 leagues in a year. The decision will also prevent sanctioning such tournaments in Associate Member countries.

The issue popped up after increase in number of T20 Leagues in recent years. It was discussed by the Chief Executive Members (CEC) and the ICC board at the Dublin annual conference. It was a huge concern that players participate in any number of leagues, it may affect the international bilateral cricket.

However, a final decision on the same is expected by October this year.

Another important decision to be considered is that, whether ICC stops giving permission to Associate Members to host a T20 league. It is to be noted that Full Members do not require any permission to host such a league, but Associate Members do. In the absence of sanctions by the ICC, such leagues will not be able to get big names of the game and hence, it will cease to be successful.

A primary concern among Full Members has been the involvement of third-party in Associate Member’s T20 League. It has been observed that they just look forward to making money without any stakes of the Associate member. This practice can destroy the spirit of the game which.

Many other boards have even started enacting this measure. In May, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued an order, according to which their player can only participate in two T20 leagues, with or without the PSL.

On the other hand, BCCI has never allowed any player to participate in other T20 Leagues, mainly to maintain the popularity of IPL and to promote emerging talent from domestic cricket in the country. The BCCI has even updated contracts of the players in both domestic and International format.
