Boult rattles debutant Shubman Gill with a nasty bouncer

There was one moment in the match apart from the delivery he got out to, where Gill did not look comfortable. It was a bouncer from Trent Boult that hit Gill straight on the helmet in the 10th over of the Indian innings.

Playing his first ODI at the age of 19, Shubman Gill showed enough signs to prove that he is the one for the future. He scored only 9 runs in his first tryst with international cricket but the way he got behind the line to the likes of Trent Boult and Matt Henry bore testimony to his talent.

Gill was drafted into the Indian side in place of regular captain Virat Kohli, who had been rested for the last two ODIs and the three-match T20I series.

The extra and pace bounce surprised Gill, he clearly late on the pull shot. The balls rattled the youngster and had to be assisted by Indian physiotherapist Patrik Farhart before he resumed batting once again. Boult was prompt enough to check on the young man after vicious bouncer.

In his next over, Boult got the better of Gill with pitched-up delivery. The Punjab right-hander played it on the up and ended up scooping it straight back to the Boult, who accepted the return catch gleefully.

Boult ran through the Indian side with figures of 5 for 21 to bowl them out for their seventh lowest total in ODIs on 92. In reply, New Zealand made light work of the target reaching home in just 14.4 overs with 8 wickets in hand to make it 3-1.
