Bangladesh Pacer Set To Undergo Knee Surgery, Doubtful For ODI World Cup 2023

The Bangladesh Cricket Board's senior physician Dr Debashus Chowdhury did not reveal a specific time as to how long will the Bangladesh speedster take to recover from the surgery.

In what could be a major blow to Bangaldesh ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, their fast bowler Ebadot Hossain is set to undergo a surgery from which he will require time to recover, putting him in serious doubt for the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 set to commence on October 5 in India. Hossain is likely to receive the medical treatment at the Cromwell Hospital in London giving him about a month's window to regain match fitness from the ACL injury that has already forced him out of Asia Cup 2023.

However, it could be touch and go as far as his fitness ahead of the World Cup is concerned as players tend to get a period of six weeks to fully recover from the left ACL injury especially after having to undergo a surgery. The Bangladesh Cricket Board's senior physician Dr Debashus Chowdhury did not reveal a specific time as to when he will reveal but said that his surgery was necessary for his recovery.

"Ebadot consulted a knee specialist in London this week," he said as per an official press release.

"Upon extensive review of his condition, it was decided that Ebadot would undergo a left ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair."

"At this stage, we are not in a position to provide further details including the rehab process and expected timeframe for recovery. However, we are fully committed to helping and supporting the player in every way possible in his journey towards returning to cricket," he further said.

It is pertinent to note that Ebadot picked up the injury during the third ODI against Afghanistan last month. Even though Bangladesh won that game they went on to lose the series 2-1. However, after the initial assessment of the injury, it wasn't deemed to be of a serious nature which is why he was named in the Asia Cup squad which has gotten underway on Wednesday (August 30) but had to be withdrawn when the seriousness of his injury came to the fore.
