BAN vs SL, ICC World Cup 2019: Sri Lanka split points after 2nd successive washed out match

Two points from two abandoned games took them to the fifth stand on the points tally with four points

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh split a point each after their fixture in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was called off due to the inclement weather in Bristol. The heavy drizzling didn’t let the toss to happen and after four hours of continuous downpour, the on-field umpires, Richard Illingworth & Richard Kettleborough, and match referee Jeff Crowe were forced to call the match off. This was the second abandoned World Cup match in two days, and the third this week. At the same time, it was Sri Lanka’s second rained-off game in the ongoing tournament. However, two points from two abandoned games took them to the fifth stand on the points tally with four points. New Zealand leads the chart with 3 wins and 6 points while England and India are at 2nd and 3rd positions respectively with 4 points apiece. After two defeats, Bangladesh too were looking for a resurgence against Sri Lanka and now they will be wary of their semifinal chances. They were handed a two-wicket loss by New Zealand followed by a massive a 106-run defeat to hosts England after their 21-run win over South Africa in their World Cup opener. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered a 10-wicket loss to New Zealand in their opening match, before recovering to beat Afghanistan in a rain-shortened game, but the Lankans were forced to split points with Pakistan in their last match after the match was called off due to rains.
