All-Round Australia Swat Away Below-Par Bangladesh In Super 8 Match
Australia won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat first. Bangladesh were shaken early on by a phenomenal Mitchell Starc delivery that rattled opener Tanzid Hasan’s stumps. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy managed to take Bangladesh’s total to 140.
In reply, Australian openers David Warner and Travis Head came out with all guns blazing and made sure Bangladesh bowlers had no way to pull their team back into the AUS vs BAN match. The match was interrupted by rain for a while but the weather calmed after a brief halt in the play. Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain took two quick wickets sending Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh back in the hut but David Warner’s fifty and Glenn Maxwell’s quickfire 14 runs knock ensured that Australia were 93-2 after 11 overs when the rain interrupted one more time, well ahead of 72-2, which was the total that Australia had to be at in order to win. The rain ultimately had the final say as Australia won the match by 28 runs by virtue of the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method (DLS).
