CPL 2020: Narine-Munro Star In Knight Riders Win Over Tallawahs, Zouks Beat Tridents In Rain-Hit Encounter

The Zouks thumped the Barbados Tridents by seven wickets via (D/L) method at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad to register their first win of the season.

St Lucia Zouks secured their first points in the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after the Daren Sammy led side secured a thumping seven wicket win over defending champions Barbados Tridents in a rain-hit match. The Zouks thumped the Barbados Tridents by seven wickets via (D/L) method at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad to register their first win of the season. Zouks did well to restrict the Tridents to 131/7 in 18.1 overs when rain interrupted play and the umpires were forced to call it the end of the innings. Johnson Charles and skipper Jason Holder led the batting efforts for the Tridents, contributing meaningfully with knocks of 35 and 27 runs respectively. On account of the persistent rain which led to overs being lost, Zouks were then given a revised but stiff target of 47 runs in five overs which they chased down in 4.1 overs. Andre Fletcher's quick fire 16 off seven balls and Mohammad Nabi's 15 runs off just six deliveries catapulted the the chase for the Zouks. Rahkeem Cornwall also scored 14 off eight balls. Afghan spin allrounder Nabi was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round performance (15 runs, 1/19 in 4 overs). Brief Scores: Barbados Tridents 131/7 (Johnson Charles 35; Roston Chase 2/8) lost to St Lucis Zouks 50/3 (Andre Fletcher 16*; Rashid Khan 2/24) by seven wickets (D/L) method. Trinbago Knight Riders defeated Jamaica Tallawahs by seven wickets in the second game of the day in the 2020 Carribean Premier League. Batting first, Tallawahs did not fare well with the bat as they posted a below-par 135/8 in their stipulated 20 overs largely on the back of a stellar 58-run knock from Glenn Phillips. Asif Ali (22) and Andre Russell (25) also chipped in with useful contributions in the middle-order. Chasing a relatively low 136 run target, Sunil Narine was again in blistering form up the order as he  stroked his way to 53 runs off just 38 deliveries, and an unbeaten 49 from Colin Munro then helped Knight Riders chased down the total with utmost ease with 11 balls to spare. Sunil Narine Narine was named the Player of the Match. Brief Scores: Jamaica Tallawahs 135/8 (Glenn Phillips 58; Jayden Seales 2/21) lost to Trinbago Knight Riders 136/3 (Sunil Narine 53; Mujeeb Ur Rahman 1/13) by seven wickets.
