The 23-year-old Japanese tennis sensation became the 12th woman player to win the Australian Open Championship for the second time.

Jennifer Brady had defeated the first-time slam semi-finalist Karolina Muchova 6-4 3-6, 6-4 to reach her first-ever Australian Open final.

Brady making it to the finals of the grand slams was an incredible achievement as she had become the seventh woman to qualify for the maiden slam final in the past nine tournaments.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Osaka defeated Serena Williams 6-3 and 6-4.  With this defeat, Serena's dream of winning her 24th women's singles Grand Slam was shattered.

"I didn't play my last Grand Slam with fans so just to have this energy it means a lot," Osaka said to the fans during the presentation.

"Thank you so much for coming. I feel like playing a Grand Slam is a super privilege right now and it's something I won't take for granted. Thank you for this opportunity."
