Margashirsha Amavasya falls on December 1, 2024. According to ancient scriptures, observing a fast on this Amavasya not only satisfies ancestors but also pleases Brahma, Indra, Rudra, the Ashwini Kumaras, Surya, Agni, as well as all living beings, including animals and birds.

Freedom From Pitra Dosh On Margashirsha Amavasya

On Amavasya, while remembering your ancestors, offer a little Ganga water, black sesame seeds, sugar, rice, water, and flowers to a Peepal tree. Chant the mantra "Om Pitrubhyo Namah". Reciting the Pitru Sukta and Pitru Stotra on this day is considered highly auspicious and brings positive outcomes.

How To Perform Tarpan For Ancestors

To perform Tarpan for ancestors, first take Kusha (sacred grass) in your hand. With folded hands, remember your ancestors and invite them by chanting the mantra:
"Om Agacchantu Me Pitarah Evam Grihnantu Jalanjalim."

After invoking them, offer water along with the Kusha as a gesture of respect and reverence.
