Margashirsha Amavasya falls on December 1, 2024. If women observe a sincere fast on this day, they receive special blessings from the deities and are granted the boon of a long life for their husbands.

What To Avoid On Amavasya Tithi?

  • Do not conduct any auspicious ceremonies like weddings or engagements, as they may not bring success or prosperity.
  • Do not harm animals, as it leads to ancestral dosha.
  • Avoid cutting trees like Peepal, Banyan, or any other tree.
  • Do not consume non-vegetarian food or alcohol, as it may lead to financial and mental troubles.
  • Avoid eating chickpeas, lentils, mustard greens, and radish.
  • Refrain from anger or disrespecting others on this day.

What To Do On Amavasya Tithi?

  • It is traditional to wake up before sunrise and bathe at a holy place or river. If this is not possible, adding a few drops of Ganga water to your bath at home brings the same merit.
  • Observe a fast or vow, perform prayers, and make donations according to your beliefs.
  • Clean your entire house, and then sprinkle Ganga water or cow urine for purification.
  • Early in the morning, offer water to the Peepal tree, and perform 108 circumambulations around it. This is believed to remove poverty.
