Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday tried to turn the news that the FBI had searched his Florida estate to his benefit, citing the investigation in text messages and emails soliciting political donations from his supporters. The unprecedented search marked a significant escalation of the federal investigation into whether Trump illegally removed records from the White House as he was leaving office in January 2021. Trump continues to flirt publicly with running again for president in 2024 but has not said clearly whether he will do so.

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed documents endorsing Finland and Sweden's accession to NATO, the most significant expansion of the military alliance since the 1990s as it responds to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Biden signed the U.S. "instrument of ratification" welcoming the two countries, the final step for their endorsement by the United States.

There has been a fresh wave of terror attacks in Pakistan following a deadlock in talks with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Kabul, Afghanistan, to formulate a mutual agreement of an indefinite ceasefire in terror activities. Pakistan's security forces, religious clerics and tribal elders have been involved in months-long negotiations with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, a recent failed trip of Pakistan's religious clerics has triggered a spurt in terror attacks in the country.

A new type of animal-derived Henipavirus has so far infected people in Shandong and Henan provinces of China, official media here reported on Tuesday. The new type of Henipavirus was found in throat swab samples from febrile patients in eastern China, state-run Global Times quoted media reports.

NATIONAL NEWS

Nitish Kumar took the oath as the chief minister of Bihar for the 8th time on Wednesday, a day after he resigned from the post of the CM of the NDA alliance government and staked claim to form a new government with the RJD, the Congress and other parties. RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav took the oath as the deputy chief minister. The cabinet expansion will take place after August 15, reports said.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will on Thursday host an Asian Regional Forum meeting focused on making elections “inclusive, accessible and participative” as a precursor to the Global Summit for Democracy in Mexico next month. In a statement, ECI said the summit and the meeting aim to generate synergy among international organisations and electoral bodies to promote “intellectual and institutional mobilization to strengthen electoral democracy”.

All the 10 cases filed across the country against Nupur Sharma for her comments about the Prophet Mohammed will be transferred to Delhi and the Delhi Police will investigate the case, the Supreme Court ordered on Wednesday, in a huge relief to the now-suspended BJP leader. Nupur Sharma was caught in the eye of a massive whirlpool of international row for her comments about the Prophet Mohammed.

As India is gearing up to celebrate the 75th year of Independence, a video surfaced on social media that shows several people alleging that they were forced to buy the Tricolour for Rs 20 when they went to ration stores. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, sharing the video, said the Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) is attacking the self-respect of the poor along with attacking the Tricolour.

Pankaj Tripathi’s beloved character lawyer Madhav Mishra is returning in the third season of Criminal Justice, the trailer for which was released on Wednesday. Titled Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach, the show sees Madhav handle his toughest case yet and come face-to-face with a lawyer completely unlike him, played by Shweta Basu Prasad.

Stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava has been reportedly admitted to AIIMS Hospital following a heart attack. According to reports, Raju was working-out in a gym when he passed out and was rushed to the hospital. He has now gained consciousness but is still under observation at the hospital.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan held a special premiere of his latest movie Laal Singh Chadha for actors and directors of Tamil cinema in Chennai. The film seems to have impressed everyone who attended the special screening.

The controversial Ma Anand Sheela, who became an overnight sensation after her appearance on the Netflix documentary Wild Wild Country, has said that she was misrepresented in the series. In an appearance on The Ranveer Show podcast, she said that she agreed to appear in the documentary because her father had urged her to speak her truth.

Indian batter Surya Kumar Yadav held on to his second position while compatriot Shreyas Iyer moved up six places to 19th in the latest ICC T20 rankings released on Wednesday.

Yadav is the best-placed Indian with 805 points in the batting list headed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam.

Ireland clinched their first home T20 International win of the season by beating Afghanistan by seven wickets in Belfast. George Dockrell hit the winning boundary off the penultimate ball to lift Ireland onto 171-3 after they were set a target of 169.

The much-anticipated Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 may have last-minute schedule changes as it is being reported that the quadrennial football event may kick off earlier than the planned date. News agency AFP quoting tournament sources reported that the Qatar World Cup is "to start a day earlier". FIFA might consider moving the start date of the World Cup so that the host nation can play in the opening fixture. As of now, the first match is slated between Senegal and the Netherlands on Monday, November 21. Qatar, the host nation, is playing Ecuador on November 21 in the latter half of the day.
