Ukrainian Parliament Approves Law To Seize Russia-Owned Assets In Ukraine

Under the law, the government can suggest which assets to confiscate to the Security Council, which must then give its approval for their transfer to state ownership, Reuters reported.

New Delhi: The Ukrainian Parliament has approved a law to allow the seizure of assets or property in the country owned by Russia or Russian citizens due to the invasion of Ukraine.

Under the law, the government can suggest which assets to confiscate to the Security Council, which must then give its approval for their transfer to state ownership, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, the second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine is set to take place today.

The first round of talks between the two sides held in the border town of Gomel in Belarus earlier on Monday ended without a breakthrough.

This comes as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues for the eighth day today.

Kherson city is the first major urban centre to fall since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his “special military operation” against Ukraine last week.

“The (Russian) occupiers are in all parts of the city and are very dangerous,” Gennady Lakhuta, head of the regional administration, wrote on Telegram late Wednesday, as reported by AFP.

The strategic port city near the Black Sea was captured as Russian forces continued their offensive across other urban centres.

Kherson Mayor Igor Kolykhaev said that Russian soldiers were in the city and came to the city administration building.

He asked them not to shoot civilians and to allow them to gather up the bodies from the streets.

In the offensive, the Russian forces have also bombarded Ukraine's second-biggest city Kharkiv.

Ukrainian capital Kyiv has been able to withstand the assault so far.

So far, thousands are reported to have died or been injured in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
