Exclusive CCTV, Exercise Spot & More: Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s Stint ‘Costs Prison Rs 4L/Month’
According to a report submitted by prison authorities to Lahore High Court, specialised facilities provided to Imran Khan also include a dedicated kitchen.
Special security measures taken for former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail rack up a monthly bill of over Rs 1.2 million (12 lakh Pakistani rupees or roughly INR Rs 3.6 lakh), according to a report submitted by prison authorities to the Lahore High Court.
The specialised facilities provided to 71-year-old Khan include a separate CCTV camera system installed for Rs 5,00,000 (Pakistani rupee), news agency PTI reports. This is different from the system overseeing the other 7,000 prisoners.
His meals are reportedly prepared in a dedicated kitchen under the supervision of an assistant superintendent, and are then inspected by a medical officer or deputy superintendent before being served, the PTI report adds, citing Pakistani daily The Express Tribune.
According to the news agency PTI, doctors from Holy Family Hospital provide medical care to Khan, with additional specialist teams conducting regular check-ups, it says.

The former PM is said to occupy two of the seven special cells at the prison, while the rest are kept closed for security reasons. Usually, 35 prisoners are accommodated in these cells. There are tight restrictions on accessing Khan’s cell, and strict regulations are in place for visitors. Additionally, the report says, comprehensive security protocols are implemented during court proceedings.
While Adiala Jail typically assigns one staffer for every 10 prisoners, Khan’s security detail comprises 15, including three dedicated to his security, as per PTI.
There is a designated spot equipped with exercise machines and other amenities for Khan’s “recreational walks”, the report adds.
The jail authorities, Pakistan Rangers, and district police also conduct regular search operations and mock drills on the prison premises, the report says.
