Army Veteran And Staunch Trump Supporter Mike Waltz Likely To Be National Security Adviser

US President-elect Donald Trump has asked Florida Representative Mike Waltz to be his national security adviser. Michael Waltz is a retired Army National Guard officer and war veteran. He is also the head of the India caucus who had advocated for advancing US defence and security cooperation with India.
According to an India Today report, the US Senate's India Caucus is a bipartisan group which currently comprises 40 members of the Senate. It was founded in 2004 by the then New York senator and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and Senator John Cornyn, it is the largest Caucus of its kind in the Senate.
This approval comes despite ongoing concerns on Capitol Hill about Trump picking members from the House, where the final count remains uncertain. There are also worries that removing any GOP members from chambers could trigger a new election to fill the vacant seat, as per the Associated Press (AP) report.
The three-term GOP congressman from east-central Florida was the first ‘Green Beret’ — a name given to Army National Guard officer — to be elected to the US House and easily won reelection last week. According to AP, Mike Waltz has been a chairman of the House Armed Services subcommittee on readiness as well as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Waltz is a staunch Trump advocate who backed the efforts to over the 2020 election results. He has repeated Trump’s frequent complaints about a “woke” military that the former president referred to as soft and too focused on diversity and equity programs.
The veteran is considered to be ‘hawkish’ on China and called for a US boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing due to its involvement in the origin of COVID-19 and its ongoing mistreatment of the minority Muslim Uyghur population. He also criticised the chaotic withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan and called the country accountable for the death of 13 soldiers at Abbey Gate.
