Kabul Twin Blasts: At Least 19 Killed, 50 Injured In Attack On Military Hospital

Kabul Twin Blasts: At least 19 people have been reported dead, 50 have been injured in the Kabul hospital attack.

New Delhi: Twin blasts are reported in the Afghanistan capital Kabul on Tuesday afternoon. As per AFP, a blast occurred outside a military hospital followed by gunfire. Later on, in the same vicinity, another explosion was heard.

So far, at least 19 people have been reported dead, around 50 have been injured in Afghanistan's biggest military hospital in Kabul.

As per latest update by AFP, a suicide bomber and gunmen were behind an attack on a Kabul hospital.

The explosions took place outside the 400-bed capacity Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital in central Kabul, Interior Ministry spokesman Qari Saeed Khosty told news agency Reuters adding that security forces had been sent to the area.

Ambulances were carrying injured people to hospitals from the area, Tolo News reported.

Soon after the incident, some photographs were shared by residents on social media which showed a plume of smoke over the area of the blasts near the former diplomatic zone in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of the city and witnesses said at least two helicopters were flying over the area.

Till now, no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

A health worker at the hospital, who managed to escape, told Reuters that he heard a large explosion followed by a couple of minutes of gunfire.

Ever since the Taliban completed their victory over the previous Western-backed Afghanistan government in August, the militant Islamic State group has carried out a series of bombing and shooting attacks in the war-torn nation.

The recent blasts add to the growing list of attacks and killings, undermining Taliban's claim to have restored security to Afghanistan after decades of war.
