Uttar Pradesh polls: PM Modi receives Muslim support in Varanasi
Varanasi: The political fever was observed to be at peak in Varanasi on Saturday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi did a 3-hour-long road show on the ‘holy’ streets of Varanasi, where he received a very warm welcome, with people smearing flowers on his convoy.
Surprisingly, a huge amount of Muslim voters could be seen raising pro-Modi slogans and had gathered in support of PM Modi.
One of the Muslim supporters said, “We have faith in PM Modi and believe that he would work hand-in- hand with Muslims. He also said that he is campaigning for BJP’s victory in Varanasi”.
PM Modi is believed to be a hardliner towards Muslims. Also, PM Modi’s recent graveyard comment had spurred a massive row and resulted in a lot of debates.
"Agar kabristan me bijli hai to shamshaan me bhi honi chahiye. Agar Ramzan mein bijli aati hai, to Diwali me bhi aani chahiye, bhedbhav nahi hona chahiye (If there is electricity in the graveyard and during Ramzan, it must also be available in a crematorium and during Diwali. There should be no discrimination)," PM Modi had said.
However, the amount of Muslim support PM Modi received in Varanasi has put question marks over a lot of notions.
