UP: Five Dead, Including Three Children, In Bhadohi After Fire At Durga Puja Pandal

Around 150 people were inside the Pandal at the time of the incident

New Delhi: At least 5 people died and 64 were injured after a fire broke out in a Durga Puja Pandal in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi on Sunday evening, as reported by news agency ANI. According to DM Gaurang Rathi three children and two women have died in the incident.

Around 150 people were inside the Pandal at the time of the incident, as reported by ANI, citing officials. Every patient is stable, DM Gaurang Rathi said as reported by ANI. The fire broke out in an area under the Aurai Police Station area.

“The death toll has reached 3 in the Bhadohi Durga Puja pandal fire matter. A 12-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy, and a 45-year-old woman died,” ANI quoted Bhadohi DM Gaurang Rathi as saying. According to the officials, the fire broke out due to a short circuit, as reported by ANI.

“Around 150 people were present during Durga Puja aarti when a fire broke out. 52 people were admitted to diff hospitals; a 10-12y/o child died. 30-40% burns on people in trauma centers, every patient stable...Prime facie, it was a short-circuit; probe on, ANI quoted Bhadohi DM Gaurang Rathi as saying.

The incident occurred around 9 PM when an aarti was being performed, ANI reported citing Anil Kumar, SP, Bhadohi. Nine people were admitted to a local hospital and 33 others who sustained serious burns were referred to a hospital in nearby Varanasi, as reported by PTI.
