4 Juveniles Among 8 Arrested In Sikkim For Repeated Rape Of 13-Year-Old

After a complaint was filed regarding a 13-year-old girl, eight people, including 4 juveniles, were arrested for her rape over few months in the Gyalshing district, in Sikkim. On Friday, a complaint was filed by the Child Welfare Committee after the girl's school alerted them about her condition, following which action was taken.

According to PTI, during counselling, the 13-year-old, who always remained sick and low in class, named a woman from her locality who would regularly call her to assist with domestic work. The woman, allegedly the girl coerced into performing sexual acts involving her husband.

It was further revealed that two other men were brought in, and the girl was allegedly forced into performing sexual acts with them in exchange for money, PTI reported. The victim also named four juveniles who were allegedly involved in sexually assaulting her during the past year.

Based on her statement, police arrested the woman, her husband and the two men, besides taking the four juveniles into custody.

The girl is currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, receiving counselling and medical treatment. A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Manipur Rape Cases 

In a separate incident, a mentally-challenged minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Manipur's Churachandpur district. The girl's body was found in a forest in Thanlon sub-division of the district on Friday.

"The girl had gone to collect firewood at a forest in Leijangphai area on Friday. As she did not return, her father became concerned and went to the forest," officials were quoted by PTI.

Her body was found on Friday afternoon with the clothes torn and injury marks on the body, officials added. Police have arrested a suspect in the case, and an investigation is underway.

According to PTI, this is the third incident in Churachandpur district involving the sexual assault of minor girls in less than a month. Earlier this month, a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an underaged boy in the district.

Last month, a 9-year-old girl was found dead in the vicinity of a relief camp for internally displaced people.
