PM Launches 3 High-End Covid-19 Labs In Noida, Mumbai & Kolkata; A Look At Recent Measures Taken By Govt

PM Modi on Monday inaugurated three High Throughput COVID-19 testing facilities through video conferencing in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Kolkata (West Bengal).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the "right decisions" taken by the Indian government at the "right time" to fight battle against the novel Coronavirus in the country. ALSO READ | Coronavirus: India Records Worst-Ever Spike With Nearly 50K Cases In Single Day; Total Tally Breaches 14 Lakh Mark While speaking at the launch of COVID-19 testing labs, Prime Minister said "due to timely decisions taken by the government, India is better placed vis-a-vis other countries in terms of deaths due to COVID-19. The recovery rate is also higher than other countries and is improving on a daily basis."
PM Modi on Monday inaugurated three High Throughput COVID-19 testing facilities through video conferencing in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Kolkata (West Bengal). Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Crores of people are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Today we launched three high tech testing labs, which will help West Bengal, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh." "Delhi-NCR, Kolkata and Mumbai are big economic centres and here youths come to make their careers and fulfill their dreams. With the launch of three more throughput testing labs, India will test 10,000 more samples everyday. More number of tests will assist early detection and treatment, thereby helping fight the spread of the virus," PM added.
His remarks came at the time when India's COVID-19 tally crossed the grim 14 Lakh mark on Monday, as it witnessed its worst ever single-day spike in COVID-19 infections. It recorded  708 deaths and highest single-day spike of 49,931 cases reported in last 24 hours, as per the health ministry data. Total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 14,35,453 including 4,85,114 active cases, 9,17,568 cured/ migrated and 32,771 deaths. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has increased to 63.92 per cent. Here’s What Can Be Expected Hailing the decisions taken by the government, PM said, "Centre had announced a package of Rs 15,000 crore at the beginning of this Coronavirus pandemic. In January we had only one centre in India for COVID-19 testing, but now the country has more than 11,000 COVID-19 facilities and more than 11 lakh isolation beds."
Modi further emphasised on the efforts being put in the manufacturing of PPE kits and face masks. What India has done is a big success story. Six months ago not a single PPE manufacturing unit was there and now today we have more than 1,200 manufacturers who are producing more than 5 lakh kits. Now India is the second biggest manufacturer of PPE kits, PM Modi said.
