Kanhaiya attacks PM over 'jumlas'

Mumbai: Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar on Saturday demanded that the government stop 'jumlas' (idioms) and start "working" as public patience was wearing out. Addressing a students rally in Tilak Nagar, he said the people don't want false promises or 'jumlas' in the name of Stand-Up India, Make In India, Skill India or communal-casteist politics, but need education, jobs, and development. "Ours is politics of social justice, helping the masses of the country. The students and workers of the country are getting united. That's why the Modi government is so scared," Kanhaiya Kumar said in his speech punctuated with cheers and thunderous applause. He demanded a complete end to caste-communal based politics inspired by the RSS and said the struggle was to save democracy and ensure social justice and empowerment. "For how long will the masses continue to suffer?... The sun will rise," he said. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union president arrived for an educational conclave organised by the the Left, students and youth organisations in his first visit to Mumbai followed by another engagement in Pune on Sunday.
