Bihar: Violence In Sasaram During Ram Navami Festivities, Houses Set On Fire. Section 144 Imposed

A few police personnel also sustained injuries as they tried to control the situation when clashes broke out

The local administration in Bihar's Sasaram city imposed Section 144 after clashes broke out between two groups during Ram Navami procession on Friday. According to the police, people resorted to stone pelting and also vandalised several vehicles and roadside stalls. After receiving information about the clash, police immediately reached the spot to control the situation.

"There is tension between both groups, and stone pelting also occurred. Some houses were set on fire. The fire is being doused.  The administration came to the spot and calmed them down. The situation is under control now,' said ADM Chandrashekhar, as reported by ANI.

A few police personnel also sustained injuries as they tried to control the situation when clashes broke out between the two groups in the city.

Violence was also reported from Nalanda's Gagan Diwan area during Ram Navami procession. Stone pelting and arson of vehicles also occurred during the clashes between two groups, reported ANI.

Meanwhile, fresh incidents of stone-pelting were reported in West Bengal's Howrah on Friday, just a day after violence hit the state on 'Ram Navami'. Police had to resort to baton-charge to disperse the agitating crowd and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were imposed in Kazipara area, news agency PTI reported.

A heavy presence of security personnel was seen in the Shibpur area of Howrah where fresh violence broke out on Friday. A total of 46 people were arrested in connection with the violence since Thursday.

A huge team of Rapid Action Force (RAF) from Kolkata Police was brought into the area on Friday to maintain law and order in the area.
