On January 17, 2025, two much-anticipated films, Kangana Ranaut's Emergency and Ajay Devgn's Azaad, premiered in theaters, creating a buzz among audiences. While both movies garnered significant attention, Emergency took the lead at the box office.

Emergency Tops the Box Office

As per early reports from Sacnilk, Emergency earned ₹2.39 crores on its first day. With positive initial trends, the film is expected to perform even better over the weekend. However, sustaining this momentum will be crucial for its overall success.

In comparison, Azaad had a slower start at the box office, despite its star-studded cast and attractive ticket pricing. The film, directed by Abhishek Kapoor, opened to ₹1.60 crores on day one. Featuring a talented ensemble, including Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, and debutants Aaman Devgn and Rasha Thadani, the movie struggled to fully engage audiences. Despite its patriotic themes and strong performances, the love drama set against India's pre-independence era received a tepid response.
