Terrorists attack security forces in Srinagar's Mujgund area; 5 soldiers injured

New Delhi: An encounter between militants and security forces broke out on Saturday evening in the Mujgund area located on the outer region of Srinagar. Five soldiers of the security forces were injured during the attack. Police sources said the five security personnel, including a soldier, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper and three policemen, were injured in the fighting. The injured men have been shifted to a nearby hospital and as per locals, three houses in the area have been damaged. According to a report by news agency ANI, these militants opened fire upon the security forces when they were conducting searches after cordoning off the area after getting intel about some terrorists hiding there. "Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the evening near the Srinagar-Bandipora road in Mujgund area on the city’s outskirts", a police official said.
As per the last update, the encounter was underway between the security personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the militants.
As the forces were conducting searches, the militants fired upon them, he said. The forces retaliated, ensuring an encounter, the official said. He said the gunfight was going on and no injuries or loss of lives have been reported yet. The latest encounter comes after two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Khrew area of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.
Confirming the death of the two terrorists, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that there was no collateral damage during the encounter. “Two terrorists have been killed. Arms and ammunition recovered. No collateral damage took place during the encounter. Identities of the terrorists are yet to be ascertained,” the police had said while speaking to media.
In a similar incident, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammad Naveed Jatt, who was wanted for the assassination of Kashmir Monitor editor Shujaat Bukhari, was gunned down by security forces. The LeT operative was killed during an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Chathergam village in Budgam district in the wee hours.
