Shopian: Terrorists barge into police post, steal 5 rifles

Srinagar: A day after a bank was looted by terrorist in Kashmir, the unrest in the valley continues. Suspected terrorists barged inside a police post guarding the court complex of southern Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir late on Tuesday night, and decamped with five service rifles. The terrorists decamped along with five service rifles including four INSAS rifles and an AK-47 rifle. This is the second incident in a week targeting weapons of police personnel. On May 1st, Rajouri was put on high alert after the weapon of a policeman was stolen from the station. The police said that the stolen gun of police personnel was an AK 47. Earlier, another terrorist who had come to steal a CRPF jawan’s rifle was caught alive by CRPF personnel and was questioned. The terrorist on being investigated revealed his details and also the details of his partner who had come with him and later fled. He also revealed that he was given a task of stealing the rifle of the CRPF jawan-on- duty outside Jammu and Kashmir bank. The terrorist further revealed that every terrorist is given the task of stealing weapons so that they can never make it out of the profession after they’ve stolen guns themselves. Last month, a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 35 assorted rifles belonging to the police went missing in South Kashmir. Among the arms and ammunition that are still untraced are 21 INSAS rifles, 12 SLR rifles, two AK 47 rifles, one Light Machine Gun and three Carbine Machine Guns. Incidents of gun snatching are notorious in the Valley, as several cases have been reported of terrorists or gunmen barging into police stations and wresting the weapons from the personnel.
