Russia-Ukraine Conflict | India For Cessation Of Hostilities & Dialogue: Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra

Kwatra said it would not be correct to comment on the position of the European countries on Ukraine.

New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra on Sunday said India has always maintained there should be cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and there should be a dialogue.

Kwatra said it would not be correct to comment on the position of the European countries on Ukraine.

“We have always maintained that there should cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and that there should be a dialogue,” he added commenting on India’s position to the European countries on the Ukraine crisis, ANI reported.

The Foreign Secretary said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will exchange India’s perspectives on Ukraine during his visit to Germany, France and Denmark.

“The Prime Minister will be leaving on a visit to Germany, Denmark and France for bilateral as well as multilateral engagements. PM’s three-day, three-nation visit has intense schedule with a substantial and comprehensive agenda,” he added.

Kwatra said Prime Minister Modi will travel to Copenhagen on May 3.

“This will be PM’s first visit to Denmark but his third summit-level interaction with the Danish PM and discussions will focus on bilateral issues and issues of global and regional interest,” he added.

The Foreign Secretary said Prime Minister Modi will interact with the Indian diaspora during a community event in Denmark too like in Germany.

Kwatra said Prime Minister Modi will participate in the second India-Nordic Summit along with the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway on May 4.

“Prior to the Summit, the PM will hold bilateral meetings with the PMs of Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland,” he added.

The Foreign Secretary said Prime Minister Modi will meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Germany, adding the two leaders will co-chair the sixth India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).

Kwatra further said the sixth India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations will be followed by a high-level roundtable where Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Scholz will interact with the top CEOs of both countries.

“The PM will also interact and address the Indian diaspora in Germany,” he added.

Commenting on the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, the Foreign Secretary said discussions have been going on in this regard.

“There has been considerable progress in the launch of these discussions going forward,” he added.
